Additional case study and design for millennial travelers on-the-go
Part III: Boards
Imagine being able to view all information for planning a trip and booking flights in the palm of your hand. Never using a desktop website at any point in the process.
86% of users surveyed for this study preferred booking air travel on website vs. mobile app. Why?
The ability to easily navigate a site, compare prices, and read all information on a bigger screen. It allows users to better organize their data for decision-making. With a focus on app design to simplify the visual navigation, it became a goal for the design to allow users to do all pre-planning and flight booking in one place.
What branched off from the original study was a comment from the survey feedback, “a Pinterest board of itineraries.” I questioned the possibility of how can an app showcase a number of saved itineraries being considered for travel, without the need for a larger screen, like a desktop or tablet, to make a decision?
Now Boarding.
Boards feature allows user to save flight booking options in a moodboard to cross compare trips at any time. With a horizontal flip of their smartphone users can view any saved search items on Boards and scroll horizontally to view options for comparison. User is prompted with a tutorial screen while their search query loads to learn about this feature.
Boards allows users to view all the flight information in one device, and save any potential itineraries for later discussion (with traveling parties 2 or more).
Flip the phone back to vertical state to return to your last screen in the app.
